Representative Andrew Myers addressed constituents on Apr. 15, highlighting the financial challenges facing suburban families as tax day arrives. Myers said that rising costs at the state level are forcing many to make difficult decisions about their budgets.
Myers said many residents have reached out to share their concerns about increasing expenses, which include a new delivery fee, higher vehicle sales taxes, a gas tax increase, a new payroll tax, a metro-wide sales tax, increased car tab fees, and higher child care and utility bills. He also noted ongoing proposals such as media taxes and digital advertising taxes that could further raise costs.
“I’ve heard from many people who say these proposals could push them out of their homes, or even out of Minnesota entirely,” Myers said. He added that his focus as Co-Chair of the Suburban Solutions Caucus remains on making life more affordable for Minnesota families through initiatives like the Dollars & Sense Initiative.
Myers is also co-authoring House File 3965 to phase out chemicals linked to Parkinson’s disease in an effort to protect communities and water quality. He discussed recent efforts to improve safety along Highway 7—a corridor serving over a dozen communities—which has seen nearly 1,200 crashes in ten years.
According to responses collected by Myers last week from local residents, healthcare costs, property taxes, and insurance are among the top affordability challenges they face. “Our community is strongest when we come together, find common ground, and work toward practical solutions,” he said.
Myers encouraged constituents to continue sharing their views with him directly as he works toward policies aimed at lowering costs and creating opportunities for families across House District 45A.
