Minnesota Republican senators say they’re pleased with a new agreement on renewable fuel standards reached between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Agriculture earlier this month. The agreement calls for a commitment for 15 billion gallons of conventional ethanol starting in 2020.
“This action signifies that President Trump and our leaders in Washington heard the concerns of Minnesota farmers and small business owners,” said Sen. Rich Draheim (R-Madison Lake) in a press release issued by the Minnesota Senate Republican Caucus.
The press release states Draheim and other senate Republicans sent the president a letter asking him to take another look at energy policies to help Minnesota farmers and ethanol producers.
Other senators agreed it was great news for the state, saying they are glad the administration listened to their concerns.
“Agriculture is the lifeblood of Minnesota’s economy; when farmers are strong, so is our entire state. This is fantastic news,” Sen. Julie Rosen (R-Vernon Center) said in the release. Rosen is chair of the Minnesota Senate Finance Committee.
The agreement also helps small refineries and streamlines new rulemaking for E-15 ethanol.
