Hennepin County is supplying additional funding to essential services in an effort to respond to the coronavirus pandemic.
County commissioners announced that $3 million in funding will be going toward the county's COVID-19 response, according to a press release. The funding will help supply equipment and resources to essential services, which also includes safe living spaces for the homeless, the press release said.
The board has also been limiting and restricting some services to help keep the community healthy.
Human services programs will be limited to online and telephone options, according to a press release. Libraries in the county are also limiting services to contactless, curbside pickups, which will begin on April 13.
County commissioners are working with local hotels to help provide shelter for individuals who are experiencing homelessness due to the coronavirus pandemic, the press release said. Hotels will be providing alternate housing for residents with confirmed COVID-19 cases or those who have a higher risk of catching the virus.
Online job fairs are also being hosted by the county to help the unemployed find jobs and personal protective equipment donations for health care workers and first responders are being accepted by the county, according to the press release.
