Unemployment claims in Minnesota recently surpassed 511,000 as the state continues to deal with the economic impact of COVID-19.
The Center Square reports 31,539 Minnesotans filed for unemployment in the week ending May 16 which was 6,130 less claims than filed in the prior week.
Some residents who have filed may soon be returning to work as Minnesota has just entered Phase 2 of Gov. Tim Walz’ plan to safely reopen the state, according to Fox 9. Phase 2 allows the reopening of restaurants and bars for outdoor dining with no more than 50 customers at a given time, salons and barbershops at 25% capacity, and campgrounds and charter boat operations with social distancing measures.
Just like under Phase 1, as stated on the Minnesota government website, Phase 2 also lets retailers to open with 50% capacity, and places of worship, religious services, weddings and funerals with 25% capacity.
