Minnetonka Psd issued the following announcement on July 10.
Anna Wander is a student who demonstrates leadership through example. As a Nordic Ski captain, Cross Country captain, and First Mate, Anna strives to make Minnetonka High School a positive environment, especially for the underclassmen who look up to her. “I think one of the best ways to foster a positive school culture is to set a positive example for younger students and to make them feel welcome and included,” she says.
Anna’s strong character also translates into her strong academic work. She is a National Merit Finalist, AP Scholar with Distinction, and earned the Minnesota Platinum Bilingual Seal in Spanish. Next year, Anna plans to study Economics and Environmental Sciences at Northwestern University.
Also a successful athlete, Anna was named All State, All Conference, and Academic All State in Track. Her favorite memory from MHS winning the 4x800 meter relay with her team at the state track and field meet. “It was so rewarding to fulfill a dream of mine that I had worked super hard for and that I had never previously thought possible,” she says.
Anna would like to thank all of her teachers, coaches, and other adults that have “been very influential in my [her] and shaped [her] into the person [she is] today. In particular, she would like to give a shoutout to Mr. Nugent, Mr. Kern, and Mr. Johnson.
Giving advice to underclassmen, Anna encourages them to get involved at MHS. “I have met some of my best friends in the sports and activities that I have joined, and the atmosphere of being a part of any kind of high school team or group is incredible... You don’t have to be the MVP to have fun, take a risk and try something new!”
