Minnetonka School Board has approved a preliminary 2021 tax levy that would represent a 1.92% increase from the previous year, according to the Sun Sailor.
As a dollar figure, this represents $1.04 million. Compared to the previous rise from 2019 to 2020, this rise is significantly less. Those within the school board have stated that the rise in levy is primarily due to the school board accounting for inflation, which was agreed to by voters in the district at a rate of 2.31%.
A majority of the levy funds will go toward operating costs in the school district, as well as education initiatives aimed at improving the district's ability to provide courses relating to technology and the growing industries within. Since the rise in the levy is very minor, most property owners in the district will experience a very low rise in taxes. For instance, the owner of a $300,000 home may experience a rise of $31 in their property taxes for the year.
This amount is only preliminary and must be approved at a school board meeting.
