Hopkins Public Schools issued the following announcement.
The Hopkins School Board is accepting applications from community members who are interested in serving on the Hopkins School Board. This unique opportunity exists because
Hopkins School Board Vice Chair Chris LaTondresse was elected to the Hennepin County Board and is unable to serve both roles simultaneously.
The appointee must be 21 years of age, be eligible to vote, and live in the Hopkins School District (270). The selected person would serve until December 31, 2021 when
LaTondresse’s original term is up. If you are interested in serving, please apply on the district website (hopkinsschools.org). Applications will be available online beginning at noon
on November 24, 2020. Please apply by 5 p.m. on December 8, 2020.
The School Board will interview all legally qualified applicants publicly on December 15, 2020 and December 22, 2020. December 17, 2020 may also be an interview date
depending on how many applications are received. These meetings will be streamed via YouTube for public viewing. After interviewing the candidates, Board members will use
ranked choice voting to vote on a new member and pass a resolution to appoint that person at a special meeting on December 22, 2020. The appointment shall be effective on the
31st day following the School Board’s resolution making the appointment, absent the receipt of a valid petition rejecting the appointee in compliance with the requirements under
Minnesota Statutes §123B.09, subd. 5b(b). If no petition is received, the new Board member would take the Oath of Office at the regular meeting of the Hopkins School Board on
February 2, 2021.
