The COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting lockdowns and restrictions have had a vastly negative impact on the restaurant business.
However, many restaurants are finding a way to survive through an unlikely savior, takeout orders. For many restaurants, takeout orders have represented the only way they have been able to take orders and stay in business throughout the pandemic.
To help get out the word that restaurants need support, several state officials in Minnesota are encouraging the #GetTakeoutMN movement on social media and in person, according to a Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) press release.
“The best way to help your local restaurants weather this time is by ordering takeout whenever you can. They need our support now more than ever," DEED Commissioner Steve Grove said.
Hospitality Minnesota President and CEO Liz Rammer said hospitality businesses have been delivering happy memories to friends and families for many years.
"Help return the favor by supporting them with your takeout order today," she said.
In Minnesota, restaurants are a crucial part of the economy. With over 8,500 restaurants and 100,000 restaurant employees in the state, the industry is in harm's way due to the pandemic.
