Construction set to begin on Civic Plaza entrances

To improve accessibility and energy efficiency, all three entrances at Civic Plaza, 1800 West Old Shakopee Road, will be replaced this fall. The west (main) and Police Department entrances will be sliding glass doors and the east entrance will be glass doors.

“These new entrances will be more accessible, especially for those with limited mobility,” Assistant Maintenance Superintendent Deb Williams said. “There will be a remarkable improvement in energy efficiency. The current doors do not seal well even when closed, so the new doors will be able to conserve much more energy.”

Construction on new concrete in front of the west entrance to Civic Plaza begins on Monday, September 26, kicking off the project. The new concrete is expected to be complete on Thursday, September 29. The following week, crews will begin construction on the concrete in front of the Police Department entrance at Civic Plaza.

There will be always two entrance points to Civic Plaza during construction. When the main entrance is under construction, City staff will move electronic scooters and wheelchairs to the Police Department entrance for visitors.

The main west entrance at Civic Plaza is scheduled to be complete by mid-October, weather permitting. All work on the three new entrances is expected to be complete by the end of November.
