City Of Hopkins issued the following announcement on Dec. 09.
Wondering why our fire hydrants are wrapped in plastic?
Each winter, Hopkins Public Works wraps fire hydrants along county roads and main City routes with clear plastic bags to protect them from deterioration and corrosion due to salt and other chemicals used throughout winter.
The goal is to prevent issues that might restrict the use of a hydrant by firefighters. The bags will be removed after the snow season.
