Do the planet a favor by saving your plastic bags | City of Hopkins - Government
City Of Hopkins issued the following announcement on Dec. 24.
This holiday season, do the planet a favor by saving your plastic bags and turning them into a local Target or grocery store for recycling.
Plastic bags are a major source of contamination in our lakes and oceans where they can be mistaken as food by birds and fish. They are also a common contaminant in regular recycling bins, as they get stuck in the sorting machines, so it is best to avoid using plastic bags to bag your recycling.
Plastic bags can be defined as any plastic that is thin and stretches. So things that can be recycled include food packaging, plastic newspaper wrapping, produce bags, dry cleaning bags, bubble wrap and air pillows (popped), plastic shopping bags, product wrapping and plastic shipping envelopes.
