Telecommunicators play a critical role in public safety. They are the first link between callers and emergency services. They gather details that make it possible to send appropriate aid to help those in need and keep first responders safe.

During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, April 10 – 16, the Bloomington Police Department recognized its dispatchers and the high-quality service they provide to all who live, visit or work in Bloomington.

In 2022, Bloomington’s eight dispatchers handled more than 166,400 phone calls and entered more than 64,900 computer-aided dispatch events.

During a proclamation recognizing National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, Mayor Tim Busse thanked each dispatcher for their compassion, understanding and professionalism over the last year.
