CITY OF RICHFIELD: Six hundred pumpkins to be given away at Great Pumpkin Giveaway

City of Richfield  issued the following announcement on Sept. 26.

Unlike Charlie Brown and Linus, residents do not need to wait up all night in a pumpkin patch to wait for the Great Pumpkin to celebrate Halloween, all they have to do is go to Fairwood Park on October 12 and participate in Richfield’s annual Great Pumpkin Giveaway.

Fifteen years ago, the Great Pumpkin Giveaway was created and saw dozens of residents receive free pumpkins. Since then, the annual Fairwood Park event has grown into much more than just a pumpkin giveaway; it has turned into a seminal fall event for Richfield residents.

“The event has evolved from its grass roots start as a quaint neighborhood gathering of a few dozen people into one of the city’s larger premier special events with activities for residents of all ages,” explained Recreation Supervisor Nick Thompson.

The 2019 pumpkin giveaway will take place at Fairwood Park on Saturday, October 12 from 10:00 a.m. to noon.

More than 600 pumpkins will be given away.

Besides the giveaway, residents can have their faces painted, get their picture taken at the photo booth, participate in a coloring contest, play games, jump around in a jump house and enjoy free treats and beverages.

The event would not have been able to grow without the participation of its sponsors and event partners: The Schneeberger Group of Keller Williams Realty and Dave and Lisa Hintermeister of TCF Home Loans. The sponsor duo created the event as a neighborhood gathering back in 2004 and the city’s Recreation services Department has been involved since 2015.

“We live and work in Richfield and enjoy investing in our community, both professionally and personally,” said Steve Schneeberger.

“We always look forward to this fun seasonal event that the whole community can enjoy,” remarked Recreation Services Director Amy Markle. “There will be fall-inspired activities, and of course the opportunity to pick-out a pumpkin.”

The city thanks the generous sponsors of the event, without their support this collaborative effort would not be possible.
