CITY OF ROGERS: Chief of Police Dan Wills Message

Policespeak

City of Rogers issued the following announcement on June 5.

This has been a difficult week on top of a difficult year already. We know that every household and every city in Minnesota is affected differently by the events unfolding related to the George Floyd protests. We absolutely support the rights of those peacefully protesting, while remaining concerned and vigilant about the opportunistic criminal activities of a small group of people.

We all know that rumors and assumptions abound on social media, but that’s especially true during unprecedented and confusing situations like this. So please consider the information below as you come across posts regarding potential threats and concerns:

Per the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Information Sharing and Analysis (CISA) office, CISA has received NO credible or specific information that there are any threats, civil unrest or targeting of Rogers or our surrounding area.

To date there have been no confirmed reports and no substantive value to any reported concerns received from city, county and community leaders regarding such threats. Hennepin County CISA has received the same reports from such sources for the past several days and has determined they are rumors being spread in the community on social media platforms; in particular - Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, Reddit, and Nextdoor.

To summarize, per Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office/CISA, there has been no validity and no truth to these rumors and continuing to spread them ties up valuable law enforcement resources chasing rumors and speculation. Groups have the right for First Amendment-Protected events to gather and protest peacefully, but criminal activity will not be tolerated.

You may have noticed an increased presence of our officers in our community over the past several days, and this will continue as necessary. Please continue to be vigilant and call 911 immediately with any reports of suspicious activity and/or behavior.

Lastly, several of our retailers are modifying their hours of operation as directed by their corporate office, so please check their hours before going there.

Thank you for your cooperation as we work to keep Rogers safe!
